NEW FORMAT

During the 2021-2022 season, Maintenance Mania will adopt a new format for National Championship qualifiers. Participants will now be broken up into two categories: Rookies and Veterans. “Rookies” are considered any participants that have never qualified for a Maintenance Mania National Championship, while participants who have previously qualified as a finalist will fall under the “Veterans” category.

As in the past, the ten (10) regional winners will earn an automatic berth. The traditional wildcard format will be replaced with the new rookie classification. Once the 10 regional winners are determined, the 10 fastest rookies will earn the remaining spots in the National Championship, regardless of region. If a competitor cannot attend his/her local MM event (work conflict, vacation, out sick, etc..), they have the option to compete at their next closest MM event. This new format will ensure a healthy mix of newcomers and experts competing in our annual event, and bring a new level of excitement for those hoping to bring home the Maintenance Mania gold!

Wildcard Designation

If a competitor cannot attend his/her local MM event (work conflict, vacation, out sick, etc..), they have the option to compete at their next closest MM event. To get approval, they must submit a request to the MM Executive Committee and get approval from that local affiliate. If they are approved to compete elsewhere, they would have the Wildcard designation.

What is Maintenance Mania®?

Maintenance Mania® is a national program offered by NAA and presenting sponsor HD Supply (HDS), in which maintenance technicians compete against each other in various skill-based games.

Each NAA local affiliate has the opportunity to have their maintenance technicians compete individually to win various local awards and a chance to compete at the National Championship held at the annual NAA Education Conference & Exposition.

Participants must be employed by a community in good standing with their local association or an NAA Direct Member. Members interested in qualifying for the National Championship must register as competitors in the National Championship Qualifying Program with their local affiliate.

At the end of the competition year, NAA will offer the top participant from each of the NAA regions, plus 10 wild card participants, the chance to compete in the National Championship. The affiliate also can give the competing individuals various awards at a local level. It is up to the affiliate to decide how they will distribute awards to the winners at their event.

Maintenance technicians are recognized for their speed and skills by their NAA affiliates with certificates, trophies or prizes. Each local event is organized individually by the affiliates with support from their vendor members so the form of recognition offered may vary but the following categories are usually awarded:

  • First, Second and Third Place for the overall event
  • First, Second and Third Place for each of the individual games
  • Best Use of Maintenance Supplies in a Race Car
  • People’s Choice Race Car
  • Spirit award for the best cheerleader out there

Participants must compete in all seven games to win the overall event and to qualify for the National Championship.
