Massachusetts Rent Control: The Massachusetts Supreme Judicial Court has removed the rent control question from the November 2026 ballot, finding it violated the state constitution because its exemption for housing operated by religious organizations “related to religion.” The campaign against the initiative – including statewide polling – benefitted from a grant through NAA’s Housing Affordability Program (HAP). Read more

What We're Hearing

NYC Rent Freeze: “Our message is clear: this freeze will destroy the living conditions for hundreds of thousands of New Yorkers,” said New York Apartment Association (NYAA) CEO Kenny Burgos. “This was supported with study after study, including RGB data finding rent needed to increase just to run a building. NYCHA, a shelter, a co-op, or a rent stabilized building cannot exist without funding yet here we are, left to watch housing stability and quality malaise, with no plan to save it. I urge policymakers to act expeditiously before this bubble bursts.” (NYAA). 

Housing Challenges: “A new Harvard study documents a housing market in crisis. But its real argument is more unsettling: the era when an ordinary American could expect to own a home may have been the exception—not the rule.” (Yahoo! Finance
