Against the CARES Act Requirement: A new law in Colorado that codifies the 30-day notice requirement for covered housing will only exacerbate housing challenges and increase costs. The law also included a range of additional protections for renters using subsidies or vouchers. Read more.

LIHTC Cap: The Federal Housing Finance Agency (FHFA) announced an increase to the Low-Income Housing Tax Credit (LIHTC) cap for Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac (the Enterprises) from $1 billion to $2 billion. Read NAA’s statement in support.

Energy Star: “It’s a $32 million program for the government, but it provides, in terms of return on investment  — it’s huge,” NAA's Nicole Upano told CNBC. “It provides hundreds of billions of dollars of savings for consumers and businesses in its current form, and if it were to be managed by an external company, that might result in a fee-based system that would increase the cost to use this program.” Read more.

Micro-Housing: “Micro-housing is all the rage on the West Coast, according to data from StorageCafe. Once sought after for affordability, micro-housing is now making a push due to lifestyle habits. In the 2000s, micro-units of 441 square feet and under made up 1.1% of the market, and now in the 2020s, it has jumped to 2.4%.” Read more
