Lease Clarity: In a win for the industry, a recent ruling from the Wisconsin Supreme Court provides much needed lease clarity for local housing providers. The Court held that a residential lease requiring monthly rent payments is not an "agreement to defer payment," and therefore does not meet the criteria for a “consumer transaction” governed by the Wisconsin Consumer Act (WCA). Even if a lease were considered void, the Court said a resident must prove actual pecuniary loss caused by that violation to recover damages or attorney fees. Learn more

Inflation: In his latest economic indicators blog, NAA’s VP of Research George Ratiu says that “the latest Consumer Price Index hit a three-year high in May, rising 0.5% on a monthly basis, and a noticeable 4.2% compared with the same month in 2025. For consumers and the housing sector, the surge in inflation spells worsening financial conditions and continued affordability pressures.” Learn more about what this means for housing

Cost Pressures: “Prices of goods and services continued to climb in May, according to data released Wednesday by the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS). In May, the Consumer Price Index for all items rose 0.5% from a month, down from a 0.6% monthly increase in April.”  (HousingWire)
